Regular expresses as well as super-fast trains are available to destinations like Delhi, Varanasi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mumbai and Kolkata. Book the tickets in advance to avoid rush.
By Road Agra is well connected to the cities like Mathura, Delhi, Chandigarh, Kanpur, Lucknow, Varanasi, Jhansi, Chitrakoot, etc. Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation plies several buses to these cities. Various privately run luxury buses are also available. Idgah bus depot is the main bus-stand in the city.

Taxies Air Conditioned/non air-conditioned taxis are available, without meter, at the railway stations, airport, hotels and Partap Pura.
Other transport Un-metered auto-rickshaws, Horse-cart and cycle rickshaws are available, rates of which are negotiable.
Getting to Agra Agra, the place that boasts of the Taj Mahal and other monuments of historic importance has been a hub for tourists from the nation and around the world alike. There are a large number of tourists visiting Agra to witness and marvel at the beauty of the Taj Mahal and other historical places and monuments of Agra and this is only possible due to the various routes leading to this place. The various routes are actually responsible and have made getting to Agra all the more easier.
One of the options of getting to Agra is by roads. By roads Agra is connected in a quite well defined manner and its well connected road networks are linked to major destinations of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Rajasthan as well. Mathura is just 56kms away from Agra while Delhi lies at a distance of 203kms and Jaipur at a distance of 237kms. There is the UP State Road Transport or the UPSRTC and the private buses to and from Agra also facilitate the way of getting to .There is always the option of driving to Agra from Delhi as the roads are quite good.
Another viable option of getting to Agra is through railways. One can also avail the. There are 6 railway stations in Agra, Agra Cantonment being the largest and also has an Information center. Trains come from Delhi, Gwalior, Jhansi amongst other places and the station is closest to most good hotels. Agra lies on the Delhi-Mumbai broad gauge railway line. There are express trains from Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta and Chennai that halt at Agra railway stations. One can also avail the Shatabdi Express that departs from Delhi at 6 in the morning and reaches Agra at approximately 8:30-9:00 in the morning and returns back to Delhi at around 8:15 in the night.
You can hire a car or take a train if you want to go to Agra. There are advantages/disadvantages to both. Cars will be more expensive, but you'll take in the countryside at a slower pace than if you traveled by train. Trains are cheaper and take less time; however, you cannot stop to enjoy the countryside on your way down. We decided to take one of the trains to Agra. We rode in second class and were very comfortable.
Once we arrived in Agra, it was the mass onslaught of taxi drivers/tour guides/etc.. You can go for the prepaid taxi (there's a booth outside), or you can hire a driver for the day. We opted for the later. Either way, you're bound to make more than one unexpected side trip to somebody's store. India is a shopper’s paradise after all.
With all the pollution eating away at the Taj Mahal, industry has been shut down in Agra. I imagine the town’s primary income is now tourism. I don't know what affect this has had on the economy, but something tells me it hasn't been an easy transition for the town.
Agra Getting Around There is a diversity of modes of transport to get around Agra. For instance, one can hop in the various taxis located in the city centre to any part of the city. However, one can also try to hitch a tempo, an auto-rickshaw and cycle rickshaw. The rickshaws are also a thrilling experience and sometimes the guides are very friendly and offer insight while operating. Regardless one should take heed that there are little if any safety requirements for any of these vehicles so one should pick vehicles that look to be in suitable condition. From the railway station, one will find prepaid taxis and autos from the railway station available. Since there are numerous day trips outside of the city, prepaid transport is also available for excursions in and around the city confines. For more adventurous souls, bicycles can be hired by the hour from different parts of the city. This can be convenient since no diesel or petrol vehicles are able to enter the Taj area. There are Battery-Operated buses, horse-driven tongas, rickshaws, and other pollution- free vehicles are allowed inside the Taj area which conserve the beauty of the world-renown monument. Especially since traffic can be hectic, it is not recommended to drive in cars around the city.
